Description of plant: A herbaceous perennial growing to a height of 90 cm, native to Malaysia, with soft furry egg-shaped leaves
Nature of oil: A strong, dark amber, earthy/musky viscous oil; warming and stimulating; a reputed aphrodisiac
Method of oil extraction: Steam distillation of the dried and fermented leaves
Blends well with: Bergamot, cedarwood, clary sage, clove, lavender, geranium, palmarosa, petitgrain, rose, neroli, sandalwood, vetiver
Specific precautions required: Use sparingly, May be phototoxic (having a toxic effect triggered by exposure to light)
Stress-relieving properties include: Soothing; good for indecision, tension, touchiness, depression, nervous exhaustion and other stress-related disorders
Medical properties include: Antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiseptic, antiviral, antifungal, stimulant, tonic; good for abscesses, acne, athlete’s foot, colds, bed cores, skin complaints, dandruff, wounds
