Latin name: Citrus sinensis
Description of plant: An evergreen tree, reaching a height of 4.5–10 m, producing white flowers followed by orange fruit. Native to China but cultivated worldwide
Nature of oil: Yellowy-orange with a sweet and refreshing aroma; uplifting, warming and cheering
Method of oil extraction: Cold expression of the skin of the fruit
Blends well with: Other citrus essential oils, clary sage, coriander (and other spice oils), frankincense, geranium, lavender, myrrh, neroli, patchouli, rosemary
Specific precautions required: Phototoxic; may irritate sensitive skin
Stress-relieving properties include: Invigorating; calming; good for depression, nervous tension and other stress-related disorders, self-consciousness, withdrawal, worry
Medical properties include: Antidepressant, antiseptic, antibacterial; good for bronchitis, colds and flu, indigestion
