Cajeput (white tea tree)

Latin name: Melaleuca cajuputi
Description of plant: A tall evergreen tree, native to Malaysia, the Philippines, Australia and south-east Asia (closely related to the eucalyptus and tea tree trees)
Nature of oil: Pale yellow with a peppery camphoraceous aroma. Head-clearing, stimulating and cooling
Method of oil extraction: Steam distillation of the leaves, buds and twigs
Blends well with: Bergamot, cypress, juniper berry, lemon, pine, rosemary
Specific precautions required: Use sparingly; may cause skin irritation
Stress-relieving properties include: Helps reduce sluggishness, apathy; provides stress relief
Medical properties include: Analgesic, antibacterial, antiseptic, antispasmodic; good for sluggishness and apathy, acne, arthritis, rheumatism, colds/influenza and other respiratory ailments, headache, cystitis
